Perhaps you were afraid that he might become President of the EU! Incidentally, why do you write: "He leaves power mired in unpopularity for what he has done, but with more support for the style and personality he has brought to high office." His style and personality has turned scepticism about politics and politicians into cynicism and weakened our democracy. I despair for the future governance of this country.
