The music of the blogosphere

Posted at 8:34 am

My "New Oxford English Dictionary" (1998 ed) does not have the word "blog" in it.

New editions need to consider the wide range of "bloggerisms" there can now be.
I give a few meanings, uses, and adapted well known phrases and sayings:

To blog: intransitive verb – to scribble the truth as you see it in a world of spin and publish it with no need for the BBC or other formal publisher to approve it.
Blog: noun – the words of a blogger appearing on an internet page

Blogger: one who blogs
At bloggerheads – a good argument on blogs

Cogito ergo blogo – statement of an erudite philosophical blogger who has heard of Descartes

We need to get that idea "blogrolling" – using blogs to get out a truth the establishment wants to ignore

Someone has gone "bloggo" – the state of total preoccupation with the blogosphere so the washing up remains undone

The blogosphere – the world of ideas, chat and comment on the worldwide web

More contributions to a collection of "bloggerisms" would be good.

Judging by the uninteresting, unintelligent and inane verbiage of most of the output, how about ‘blog standard’?

On a topical note, I’ve seen a few Brownisms that seem to be gaining currency?

    1. Brownbottle – a person who backs away from brave decisions at the very last moment
    2. The Brown touch – short for reverse Midas touch
    3. The Brown squelch – Labour’s recent polling
    4. A Brown promise – a promise made without any intention to honour it
    5. Brownies – his dead-eyed disciplines (hat tip Guido)
    6. Clucking fist – a cowardly leader
    7. Flunking cyst – someone who will do or say anything
    8. Macavity – Gordon’s alter-ego
    9. A Brown investment – expensive investment with a nil or negative return.
    10. Brown bounce – what they’ll call it when his former Brownies turf him out of office.

    I like it.

    I like Cranmer too.

I’ve gone ‘bloggo’ before but I like to think I’ve done a bit of ‘blogrolling’ in the process.

    Here’s to blogging!

‘blog jam’ – a large number of posts by different blogs on a similar subject. The impact of this phenomenon lies as much in the number of bloggers, and volume of material, as the unique perspective each brings to a subject (e.g. BBC bias).

Swearblogger – A blogger who spills your coffee.

    John,

I use the made up word Blogicy to describe blog policies, here’s my definition of the word:

blogicy n, pl -cies : a statement of administrative principle applied to blogs

I do enjoy your blogs and I think the ‘gone bloggo’ is terrifically apt description.

Blogishes, [best blog wishes ...Ok it doesn't work as well as bloogo]
