Lib Dems are nasty to fellow Europeans
We are promised nasty words about the Conservatives and their new anti federal allies in the European Parliament from Mr Huhne.
These federalist Lib dems, who are always criticising Tories for not being friendly enough to fellow European democratic parties, then complain and make nasty comments about any party the Tories reach an anti federal agreement with. They caricature and libel members of these parties through selective quotes and misquotes. It was never part of the deal in the European Parliament that we all have to believe and defend all that all members of each party say – just agree with them on the big issue of whether the EU should do more or less.
Apparently in the EU Lib Dems only have to be nice about fellow traveller parties determined to take our democracy away and give more power to the Brussels autocracy. At least it goes to show David Cameron did not pull us out of the Christian Democrat grouping so that the European federalist mainstream would be nice about us! All you sceptics, maybe he did it because he agrees with us that Brussels has too much power and Nice, Amsterdam and Lisbon are wrong.

John Redwood has been the Member of Parliament for Wokingham since 1987. First attending Kent College, Canterbury, he graduated from Magdalen College...

Consistancy and the Liberal Democrats.
How often are the two things in the same sentance?
Ah!
Politics can be a dirty business, but talk is cheap, its actions which count in the end.
The problem we have had for the past 12 years is that talk does not match the action.
Perhaps the spin machines need to stop spinning.
The trouble is that Dave does not appear to want us to leave the EU.
It shows that we are rattling their cosy consensus, that they have to resort to smears and lies in order to sell federalism to the electorate.
Saw Clegg on the box saying that the Czech members were such extremists that they even doubt that we are experiencing catastrophic warming.
On the Andrew Marr show report of the Lib-Dems party conference, we were told that the Lib-Dems could be on the edge of a “break-through”. Same old, same old.
Ah, these “federalist” LibDems… Funny, but my understanding of Federalism is that of devolution of power from the centre. But that sits rather awkwardly with the Tory obsession with centralising everything and the near total distrust of those at the grass roots. PLEEEEEEAAAASEEE don’t argue the point John, you know full well (and you have never back-tracked on your slavish tugging at her mistress’ skirt hem on the matter) that you signed up hook, line and sinker to the centralising model that one M Thatcher pursued relentlessly for her entire reign.
It really is the most utterly nauseating hypocrisy of you to be pointing fingers on this of all subjects. As my mother-in-law would say: Tut, tut!
Reply: On the contrary – as Margaret’s adviser I was always advocating devolving more and mroe power to individuals, families and smaller institutions. That was what motivated the whole popular capitalist movement which I proposed.People to own their homes, have a stake in their businesses, have a vote in their Union.
