An even busier 24 hours.
I spent yesterday afternoon in the Chamber listening to the exchanges between Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition, before making my own speech on the government’s programme. This morning I spoke briefly to a breakfast meeting about the world economy, joined a regional TV debate on the deficit and Afghanistan, and went on to talk at a conference about global markets. That is why I am late today in posting.

I watched your speech to the virtually empty Commons yesterday
evening and would like to congratulate you on its content. What a
shame that the Conservative front bench seems incapable of
detailing the enormity of the problems we face but seems to
content to score cheap debating points. It seems to me that Mr Blair
and his ’spinners’ set out to destroy the House of Commons and,
judging by the lack of members present for many of the supposedly
important debates,he has been successful.

You seem very busy; perhaps unsurprising as you are one of the few politicians who speaks any sense and to whom it is worth listening. You also find the time to write a first class blog. What mystifies me is why you are not in the shadow cabinet.

What an excellent speech it was too! I am so glad that, at long last, influential people are beginning to appreciate you.

No need to apologise; you are doing your job. Perhaps the only person who is busier is Harriet Harman. I do wish she wasn’t; in people who support rotten causes, sloth is a virtue.

Just keep up the good work John.
More and more people are at last starting to realise the size of the problem, but its still only a small minority at the moment.

Dear John,
Many thanks once again for yesterday’s breakfast meeting. You should be aware that since you spoke I have received an avalanche of emails from virtually all attendees stating both how impressive and enjoyable it was.
