BT again

Published by John Redwood at 2:14 pm under Blog

Ten days on, and still no boardband or phone line. The engineer who came on Friday to fix it told me it was probably a fault in the exchange, and he was not qualified to deal with that! It almost as bad as it used to be when BT was a nationalised monopoly. We need more competition in the provision of the lines, to match the competition for phones and call services.

Wireless will a great threat to the line business in the future. Many people I know no longer have a BT line and rely on 3G for internet access.

Yes but lots of areas outside London dont have 3G and even if they do - the providers have a fair use policy which limits its effectiveness.

Where we live we asked all the providers - yet only BT could provide brodband. I thought local loop unbundling was meant to offer more competition.
